In week No. 2 of 2023 (09.01.2023 - 15.01.2023), the overall incidence of ARI and influenza for the country is 196.80 per 10,000 people (previous week it was 124.44 ). Among the total 373,025 persons of all age groups monitored in the 2nd week of 2023, 7341 cases of ARI were recorded (previous week 4642). There was an increase in the incidence in all age groups but with epidemic values in the child age group 0-4 years and in the elderly over 65 years. The incidence in the age group 0-4 years was 727.98 per 10,000 and in the age group 5-14 years was 520.31 per 10,000. Epidemiological data reflect an increase in the incidence of ARI and influenza across the country. Incidence data for Varna, Gabrovo, Dobrich, Lovech, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Sofia Region and Stara Zagora show epidemic levels of ARI and influenza. In fifteen districts of the country ( Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Vidin, Vratsa, Kyustendil, Pernik, Razgrad, Ruse, Silistra, Sliven, Sofia capital, Targovishte, Haskovo, Shumen, Yambol) the incidence shows a high intensity of the epidemic process of ARI.
During the period, 315 samples were tested in the NRL "Influenza and ARI". 91 of tested samples were positive for influenza A [A/H3N2 - 32 and A/H1N1(2009) -59] and 8 were positive for influenza B/Victoria. No influenza viruses were detected in 175 samples of children under 5 years of age but circulation of adenoviruses, respiratory syncytial virus and other viruses was demonstrated.
