Iinfluenza and ARI intensity in Bulgaria was higher than medium during week No 05 (30.01.2012 - 05.02.2012) and the total incidence per 10,000 population was 178.55 (during week No 04 the incidence was 170.10). From a total of 380,239 persons under surveillance, belonging to all age groups, a total of 6 789 ARI cases have been reported (during week No 04 the cases were 6 468). The incidence was highest in the age group 0-4 yrs (613.92 per 10,000 population), followed by age group of 5-14 yrs (554.43 per 10,000). Pre-epidemic incidence has been reported in 6 regions: Burgas (214.39), Lovech (312.02), Pleven (213.03), Razgrad (188.29), Sofia capital (185.01) and Yambol (259.17). Epidemic incidence has been reported in Shumen (358.05), higher incidence has been reported in Мontana (372.41), Pazardjik (303.67) and Stara Zagora (254.13).

During week No 05 totally of 62 samples from suspect patients have been investigated in the NRL of Influenza and ARD by Real Time PCR. 34 positive results were detected for A/H3N2.
