Iinfluenza and ARI intensity in Bulgaria was low during week No 21 (20.05.2013 -26.05.2013) and the total incidence per 10,000 population was 31.79 (during week No 20 the incidence was 41.62). From a total of 381 562 persons under surveillance, belonging to all age groups, a total of 1 213 ARI cases have been reported (during week No 20 the cases were 1 588). The incidence was highest in the age group 0-4 yrs (150.04 per 10,000 population), followed by age group of 5-14 yrs (98.49 per 10,000).

Information from National Reference Laboratory of Influenza and Acute Respiratory Infections at NCIPD

During week No 21  а total of 3 nasopharyngeal swabs from patients with acute viral infections have been investigated in the NRL of Influenza and ARI by molecular diagnostic method Real Time PCR. The 2 positive results for influenza type B were detected.
