Iinfluenza and ARI intensity in Bulgaria is very high during week No 04 (20.01.2014 - 26.01.2014) and the total incidence per 10,000 population was 235.64 (during week No 03 the incidence was 169.58). From a total of 380 586 persons under surveillance, belonging to all age groups, a total of 8 968 ARI cases have been reported (during week No 03 the cases were 6 454). The incidence was highest in the age group 0-4 yrs (868.00 per 10,000 population), followed by age group of 5-14 yrs (625.29 per 10,000). The highest еpidemic incidence has been reported in: Burgas (225.18), Varna (269.60), V.Tarnovo (203.25), Dobrich (281.31), Pleven (364.98), Russe (328.28), Sofia (248.06), Sofia-region (372.32) and Yambol (301.11).

Information from National Reference Laboratory of Influenza and Acute Respiratory Infections at NCIPD

During week No 04  а total of 168 nasopharyngeal swabs from patients with acute viral infections have been investigated in the NRL of Influenza and ARI by molecular diagnostic method Real Time PCR. The 41  positive results for А(Н1N1)pdm09 , 8 positive results for influenza type A and 18 positive results nfluenza viruses of subtype А(H3N2) were detected.
