Week No 52

Influenza and ARI intensity in Bulgaria was low during week No 52 (21.12.2020-27.12.2020).  The total incidence per 10,000 population was 31.91 (during week No 51 the incidence was 65.30). From a total of 378 884 persons under surveillance, belonging to all age groups, a total of 1209 ARI cases have been reported (during week No 51 the cases were 2474). The incidence was highest in the age group 0-4 yrs (77.11 per 10,000 population), followed by age group of 5-14 yrs (48.58 per 10,000 population). The sharp decline in morbidity is probably related to the influence of non-attendance days (Christmas holidays) within the same week, as well as the effect of the on-going COVID-19 prevention and control measures in the country.
