Influenza and ARI intensity in Bulgaria was low during week No 53 (28.12.2020-03.01.2021). The total incidence per 10,000 population was 26.42 (during week No 52 the incidence was 31.91). From a total of 378 884 persons under surveillance, belonging to all age groups, a total of 1001 ARI cases have been reported (during week No 52 the cases were 1209). The incidence was highest in the age group 0-4 yrs (79.28 per 10,000 population), followed by age group of 5-14 yrs (34.81 per 10,000 population).
The low incidence rates are probably due to the ongoing anti-epidemic measures to limit the spread of coronavirus, but also to the negative impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on the reporting of epidemiological and virological data in the influenza and ARI surveillance system.
