Week No 12

During week 12 (18.03.2024-24.03.2024) the epidemic process of influenza and acute respiratory diseases (ARD) is of medium intensity. The morbidity rate is 85.88 per 10,000 people (90.64 per 10,000 people in the previous week). Among the surveillance population of 364 092 persons, 3127 cases of ARI were recorded during the period (3300 the previous week). The weekly incidence decreased in all age groups, but the prevalence was more intense in preschool and school-aged children (5-14 years). The highest incidence was in the age groups: 0-4 years (351.28 per 10,000 population) and 5-14 years (307.45 per 10,000 population).  

There was a slight increase in the incidence in 7 districts compared to the previous week's indicators (during the week a still high incidence was registered in Pazardzhik district -203.8%000 (214.1%000 for the previous week) and an increase in the incidence in Lovech district 179.6%000 (126.1%000 for the previous week).

In 15 districts a continued decrease in incidence was observed and in 6 districts levels similar to the previous week were maintained.

The national reference laboratory tested 63 clinical samples, in 6 of which influenza A viruses were confirmed (influenza A/H1N1 (2009) viruses were confirmed in 2 samples; influenza A/H3N2 virus was confirmed in 4 samples). Influenza viruses were not proven in 48 samples from children under 5 years of age, but AdV(1) , PIV(3), RSV(3) and other respiratory viruses were isolated (6).
