During week 20 (13.05.2024-19.05.2024) a slight increase in the incidence of influenza and acute respiratory illness (ARI) was reported compared to the previous week.The incidence rate is 56,69 per 10 000 people (51,17 per 10 000 people for the previous week). Among the surveillance population of 364 295 persons, 2 021 cases (1 864 for the previous week) were registered. Weekly incidence increased in all age groups compared to the previous week. The highest incidence was in the age groups 0-4 years (259.31 per 10 000 population) and 5-14 years (156.07 per 10 000 population. There was an increase in incidence in 13 districts compared to the previous week's figures. 11 districts showed a continued decrease in incidence and 4 districts showed a similar level to the previous week.

The national reference laboratory for influenza and ARI tested 18 samples, 1 of which was confirmed to contain influenza virus type B/Victoria. No influenza viruses were demonstrated in samples from children under 5 years of age, but RSV(2), PIV(1) and other(4) respiratory viruses were isolated.
